Our music style is described as a "blended" kind of service.  It is not
all Traditional, nor is it all Contemporary.  We use several different
kinds of music in our worship of Him.  From Praise and Worship to
simple Choruses to even holding on to the use of the Sacred Hymns.

You will also not hear the same olds song every week!  We play new
and fresh music every week that takes us to His throne in Worship!

We also base our decision about the music we chose from the 2
different places in the Bible where Paul writes about 3 different types
of music.  They are found in Colossians 3:16 and Ephesians 5:19.

In Colossians chapter 3 verse 1 tells us to Seek Those Things Above
(to seek God) and verse 2 tells us to Set our Mind on the Things Above
(God and His Word).

You see, we can’t trust our own mind to set itself on Godly things!  We
have to fill it by reading His Word daily!!  Paul begins this idea with the
fact that the responsibility of a Christian is to make sure that God’s
Word is important to us…not only to our walk with Jesus, but also as
we will see in a few verses later to our music!

Colossians 3:16,
“Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly…”!

If we literally let His Word dwell (live) within us, it will cause us to walk
closer to Him in all that we say and do!

We have to literally fill ourselves with the Word of God (letting it dwell
richly) down to the very depth of our soul!
We use God's Word to guide our Music Preference and Policy.
Music Ministry
I.  There Are Different Kinds of Music:
Ephesians 5:19, “...psalms and hymns and spiritual songs…”
Colossians 3:16, “…psalms and hymns and spiritual songs…”

We find 3 different kinds of music listed here.  Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs.  I
believe this gives us confirmation that we need and can have the freedom to have a
broad range of music in the local church today.  With that freedom, there are also
principles of God's Word that must not be violated.

One reason for the need for different kinds of music is the obvious.  What ministers to
the hearts of the youth today, does not minister to the hearts of the adults and vice
versa.  Also, if we sing only one kind of music, then we leave out other kinds of music
that please Him.

A.  Psalms = This is literally singing scripture.  The book of Psalms are songs.
B.  Hymns = Songs of Praise meant to exalt God, His Character, or His principles.
C.  Spiritual Songs = Songs of Worship directed toward God.

II.  There Are Different Purposes to Music:
Ephesians 5:19, “…making melody in your heart…”
Colossians 3:16, “…singing with grace in your hearts…”

How important is pleasing Him in our use of music in different ways?
More important than pleasing our own selves and our own preferences!

When our singing honors God and pleases Him, He will show up with His presence in a
mighty way!  Let’s look at what happened when the children of Israel dedicated the first
temple (2 Chronicles 5:11-14).  Their singing pleased Him so much, that His Glory filled
the temple, so much so that the Priests could not even minister to anyone.

We can please Him with our music in 2 different ways.  When we sing when there is
melody in our hearts and when we sing when it is filled with grace!

III.  There Is Only One Object To Our Music:
Ephesians 5:19, "...to the Lord."
Colossians 3:16, “…to the Lord.”

Even though God's Word gives us the freedom to use different kinds of music, and even
if there may be different reasons to make music, there is however only one Object /
Focus of our music and praise, it should be "to the Lord"...Jesus Christ Himself!
